Carbolytic Materials Company Moves into Northwest Missouri State University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Carbon Black Alternative Manufacturer is First Tenant in University Business Incubator

Maryville, MO (May 28, 2008) – Carbolytic Materials Company (CMC), a carbon black alternative manufacturer located in St. Louis, recently announced that they will be the first tenant in the Northwest Missouri State University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Located on the Northwest Missouri State University campus, the Innovation Center is designed to include a high-technology business incubator and a graduate research center.

"Carbolytic Materials Company's decision to partner with Northwest Missouri State University last fall was a significant step forward in making the northwest Missouri region and the University a center for a broad range of technologies that will ultimately sustain the environment and improve our quality of life," said Northwest President Dean L. Hubbard. “We were able to attract CMC because of the unique opportunities our Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship creates for synergy between the private sector and academic programs. This announcement by Carbolytic fulfills this vision for the University, the city, the county and, indeed, all northwest Missouri.”

Located on the Northwest campus, the Center is designed to function as a high-technology business incubator working in conjunction with the University's Graduate Applied Research Center. CMC will utilize the incubator as a headquarters for its R&D efforts, while the research center will support academic programs that emphasize related science and technology.

The new facility will allow CMC to work with faculty and students, who will perform targeted research and development in a real-world business setting. CMC can then explore the full potential of this unique technology while allowing continued growth of the University's technical expertise in both chemistry and environmental responsibility. CMC personnel will work with students and faculty at Northwest to develop new applications for CMC’s proprietary ApexCM™ carbon black replacement material. The reclaimed carbon black can be used in automotive, agricultural, construction, and industrial-equipment applications. It is a low-cost alternative to traditional carbon black and can be used to reinforce rubber and tint plastics.
